Deadline to Apply 20th 0ctober, 2024 at 5pm

TINTERA is pleased to announce this OPEN CALL for Submission for a 7 Day Advanced Photography Workshop on the topic of Typology conducted by artist Camille Zakharia.

WORKSHOP DATES & TIMES & LOCATION:

From 1st to 7th December,  2024.

From 10am to 6pm daily in Garden City, and various locations around Cairo.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Typology is a genre of photography that requires the collection of multiple images that have a strong connection with their formal representation, usually presented in grid-form to emphasise their similarities and differences. While German photographers Bernd & Hilla Becher remain the most iconic photographers in this genre, with their vast archives of work produced over five decades of photographic practice documenting industrial buildings in Germany, Europe and North America, many other artists have adopted this genre of photography, including Karl Blossfeldt, August Sander, HiroshiSugimoto, Thomas Ruff, Candida Hofer and others.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

This workshop will be a rare chance for in depth advanced discussions on photography, its history, philosophical concerns and contemporary practices. Participants will receive art historical lectures, portfolio reviews and project development critiques for the first two days. The next three days will be on-location shooting with guidance by the instructor and critiques of daily work produced back in the classroom. The sixth day will be critiques of the final projects in preparation for the final and seventh day which will culminate in presentations of new works by participants in conversation with the public, invited guests, advanced practitioners and a public lecture by Camille Zakharia, presenting his own work and concerns in his practice.

PUBLIC PRESENTATION

A selection of projects may be presented publicly on the final day of the workshop. There is no guarantee that every participant will show their work.

LANGUAGE:

Workshop and public presentation will be conducted in English.

ELIGIBILITY:

This workshop is for experienced, mid to advanced career photographers with established work in Documentary Photography, and visual artists who utilise photographic practices and have a strong command of the medium. Participants are required to have their own DSLR cameras and laptops for the duration of the workshop, in addition to printed portfolios of work for review. Because of the intensity and short time frame, this workshop is not conducive to analog work. The workshop requires a time commitment of 7 days from 10am to 6pm daily for in classroom and on location shooting time. A full schedule will be provided for successful applicants. The workshop is limited to 12 participants.
